Easter Lab

This week was the Easter lab, and all the kids were excited to be out in the nice weather and inside the gym playing various games. Outside we just played tag and kids played on the miniature jungle gym. Inside the kids were really interested in playing with the basketballs and playing games associated around dribbling the basketball with their hand before they got to shoot around and play games of basketball. One game we didn't get to play that was a shame was a tagging game. Two "bunnies" will be it holding baskets, and they have to hop around and catch the people holding the "eggs", if one person was tagged, they would put their "egg" into the basket. The tagger with the most amount of eggs would be the winner of the two.

Playground Pirates Western Lab 3

Lab 3 was a Western theme. For this week my group and I were with the Pre-K group which consisted of mostly arts and crafts. For this we decided it would be nice to bring in some cut outs for the kids to color in. There were horse shoes, a cowboy hat, and a Texas Longhorns picture. They seemed to enjoy it and started to combine the hat with the Longhorn.

Playground Pirates Lab 2

Lab 2 was definitely an overall success. My group worked with the Pre-K children and they seemed to enjoy the craft of coloring in their favorite cartoon characters. While observing the children in the gymnasium playing tag it was clear what motor skills they knew and how much of each motor skill they knew. For example, although running seems to be natural, the correct motion of moving your arms is not, and that is something the children I observed were not capable of doing.

Lab

I think that the first lab in a designated group was an overall success. The younger kids were more willing to play any activity. The ones that seemed to care the least were some of the older girls, some stated that they were in 3rd grade and this game wasn't fun. A lot of the guys just wanted to play basketball, but the younger girls enjoyed jump ropes and trying to show me certain games that they could play with the jump rope. So I feel like they try to use more of their imagination to create games while the guys stick to normal sports.

Fudamental Skill

                                                                     Early Childhood

Fundamental skills are important because it is crucial for children to learn athletic skills at a young age. I think that children who learn motor skills at a young age and learn to play sports actually end up becoming healthier as they grow older, rather than not participating in sports at a young age. All through school you play in physical education class, learning how to play certain sports, but no matter the sport, they all share something in common, and that is the need for common motor skills.

Break

I helped train a team for soccer over the break. I had to connect with the players in a way that would make them push themselves harder to achieve their goals. As I got into learning how to train players, it was easier for me to explain what they had to do during training sessions.
